Foreign contract servicemen in Russian army eligible for simplified citizenship
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree allowing foreign citizens who sign contracts to serve in the Armed Forces during the Special Military Operation (SMO) to obtain Russian citizenship under a simplified procedure.
The relevant document was published on Monday on the official internet portal of legal information.
The changes are being made to the presidential decree of September 30, 2022, "On the Admission to Citizenship of the Russian Federation under a Simplified Procedure of Foreign Citizens and Stateless Persons Who Have Signed Contracts for Military Service."
In particular, a clause has been added to the document concerning the acquisition of citizenship by family members of this category of citizens.
Subparagraph "a" of the decree has now been amended to state that "foreign citizens who, during the special military operation, signed contracts for military service in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation or military formations for a period of one year" are eligible to apply for citizenship under the simplified procedure.
